Pillars of Liberty:
The 42nd Annual Founders’ Day Breakfast
Our 42nd Annual Founders’ Day Breakfast was a huge success. We paid tribute to Stewart Morris Sr. with a moving song by Josh Flynn. Then Dr. Louis Markos gave the Keynote speech Pillars of Liberty. He described how many problems in American society come from replacing core virtues with secondary virtues. Instead of emphasizing tolerance, multiculturalism, and environmentalism, we should be emphasizing the classical virtues of temperance, prudence, courage, and justice which form the pillars of liberty on which America was founded.
Dr. Markos is the author of nineteen books on subjects ranging from Plato to Post-Modernism. His books include Restoring Beauty: the Good, the True, and the Beautiful in the Writings of C.S. Lewis, From Plato to Postmodernism: Understanding the Essence of Literature and the Role of the Author, Worldwide Guide to the Odyssey, Atheism on Trial, and The Dreaming Stone. Dr. Markos currently holds the Robert H. Ray Chair in Humanities at Houston Baptist University.
